Based in central Brighton, Hold Fast
Co. takes inspiration from the surrounding coastline and nautical times of days
gone by. With a passion for the culture of the Fifties and Sixties, you can
expect to find home wares that reflect the strong and truly iconic aesthetic of
the eras.
Joe of Hold Fast Co. worked for many
years as a bespoke furniture maker, working with a range of woods and has made
everything from Church doors to kitchens to coffee tables! Alongside this, he
also indulged in his passion for mid century designs, and has collected iconic home
ware pieces from the fifties and sixties. Primarily interested in creating and
restoring pieces to celebrate original design, Joe enjoys working with and
developing natural materials more so than 'shabby chic'. His passion and
creativity stems from his love of being hands on and working with a range of
resources. The excitement of watching an old, forgotten piece of furniture
develop before his eyes drives him to create more.
A
talented artist too, he also creates his own vintage inspired hand drawings. Expect
Brighton’s nautical influence to have taken hold here, with Joe’s drawings
celebrating the traditional tattoos of sailors in days gone by. From swallows,
pin up girls and even cockerels and pigs (you will have to ask him for the
story behind that one), to beautiful butterflies on vintage maps, all of his
drawings pay testament to his eye for detail and quality finish.
For Joe, his passion stems from bringing his favourite
aspects of mid century culture and design into the modern age. A genuine enthusiasm
to turn his passion into a livelihood drives him forward. Just a quick chat
with Joe reveals his knowledge behind all of his items, and he takes care to create,
source and restore in a way that will prolong the lifespan of these quality
products.
